Area / Route Aggregation Options

A summary of how to switch between detailed and aggregated data.

6_Visualization

1.0 Introduction

Insights offers the ability to filter map and analytic data by location type to view data across different spatial scales (i.e. comparing aa single route segment vs. an aggregated route made of many segments). The map's appearance and analytics panel will be adjusted to reflect any location filters applied.

2.0 Layer Visualization

Within Insight's Layer Panel users have the ability to apply system-wide data aggregations or apply specific layer-level aggregations.

  1. Open the Layer Panel
  2. Choose a bulk visualization mode:
    1. Detailed: Shows the most granular segment-level data
    2. Hybrid: Shows segment-level data with an underlying zone or route-wide color to represent overall aggregated values.
    3. Aggregated: Combines all data within the area or route into a single aggregate value.
  3. Adjust Layer-specific visualizations by open up the layer and choosing one of the three visualization options.

⚠️NOTE: Bulk visualizations apply to all layers, while layer-specific visualizations only affect the specific layer.

⚠️NOTE: Most metrics are aggregated as length-weighted averages, with the exception of: VMT

⚠️NOTE: Aggregations only reflect data that is visible on the map in detailed or hybrid mode.  Applying filters that remove data from the area will result in aggregating the data that remains after the filter is applied.  To get an aggregate of all links, the filter would have to be removed.
