Location Management

A summary of how to use location management options to integrate customer data for use in Insights.

1.0 Introduction

Urban SDK allows users with 'Admin' access to add custom speed limit and road class data at the organization level. This data will automatically appear in all Insights Reports, ensuring accurate speed limit and road class information for analysis.

2.0 Managing Data

To manage and edit integrations for your locations, including Speed Limits and Road Classes, follow these steps. This will replace the default speed category and road class data, ensuring accurate information for better analytic outputs in Insights Reports. Once integrated through Location Management settings, the data will appear in all Insights reports, both new and old.

Step 1 - Access the Location Management Settings

In Workspace, click 'Settings' on the left panel. Choose the 'Organization' tab to see management options. Click 'Location Management' to view and manage locations.

Step 2 - Select the Location you would like to manage

In the Location Management settings, you'll see a list of locations that were added during onboarding by Urban SDK's customer success team. To manage data for a location, click the 'Actions' dropdown next to the location and select "Manage" to view the data integrations for that location.

Step 3 - Select the Integration you would like to edit

In the Management list for the selected location, customers can click on the actions menu and choose "Edit" to update an integration.

Step 4 - Edit your Integration

You have three ways you can edit speed limits and road classes including:

  • Select Area: It lets you draw a polygon on the map to generate a list of streets. You can select individual streets, select all, or search for a specific street within the polygon to edit manually. This is perfect for quick manual edits or if your organization lacks an uploadable speed limit file.
  • Upload: You can upload a CSV, GeoJson, or zipped shapefile with speed limit data. The data must use WGS 84 (EPSG:4326) projection and include a field with the geometry data in Well-Known Text (WKT) format. This is the preferred way to integrate speed limit data for your entire location.
  • Defaults: This lets you set default speed limits based on road class. It's ideal if your location has a common speed limit or if they match to specific road classes.

Step 4(A) - Edit your integration (Select Area)

To edit links using the Select Area option, go to the 'Select Area' tab under the 'Data Editor' title. Click the Polygon button on the map to draw a polygon. A table of streets within the polygon will then appear on the left.

Selecting a link within the table will highlight it on the map. You can use the road name search bar at the top of the road list or use the map display filter to further refine your search based on existing speed limits in the account.

A dialogue will appear where the customer can enter a speed limit value or choose from a list of road classifications to use as override values on the selected links. Currently, you can only change the road class to one of the existing classes available within the LRS, including:

  • 1 - Interstate
  • 2 - Highway
  • 3 - State Road
  • 4 - Arterial
  • 5 - Local

Click the Update button to make the change.

NOTE: Should you want to revert changes you've made, you can click the revert button at the bottom of the Select Area tab. The changes will be reverted to platform defaults for the links you've selected and will be prompted to confirm before proceeding.

Step 4(B) - Edit your integration (Upload)

To upload speed limit data, go to the 'Upload' tab under the 'Data Editor' title. If no speed limit data is integrated, click the 'Upload Speed Limits' button. If a file is already integrated, you can delete or re-upload it. Clicking the upload button will open the upload interface.

In the upload interface, you can select your file (CSV, GeoJson, or zipped shapefiles). After uploading, a sample table of the dataset will appear for preview. You must select the speed limit field and the field with the roadway geometry information to overwrite existing Speed Limits and join the data to Urban SDK’s Linear Reference System (LRS).

NOTE: Uploaded data can be in CSV, GeoJson, or zipped Shapefile format. It must use WGS 84 (EPSG:4326) projection and include a field with the geometry data in Well-Known Text (WKT) format.

After completing your selection, you'll be asked to confirm. Clicking "Continue" will send the data for processing. You'll receive email notifications when processing starts and when it's finished.

Step 4(C) - Edit your integration (Defaults)

To edit default speed limits by Road Class, go to the 'Defaults' tab under the 'Data Editor' title. You'll see a list of your road classes and their default speed limits. Click the 'Enabled' toggle at the bottom to make the options editable. The edit icons will turn blue, allowing you to select one for editing.

Click any edit icon to change the speed limit. If you update any default values, the 'Update' button at the bottom will turn blue. Click it to update the data.

NOTE: If you would like to revert to not using defaults you've set, you can click the 'Enabled' toggle to off.

3.0 How to Revert to Defaults

Should you desire to revert any changes made to an integration within Location Management use the following steps:

You will need to select the 'Select Area' tab at the top of the Data Editor interface.

Step 5 - Select Data to Revert

Click the Polygon button on the map to draw a polygon. A table of streets within the polygon will then appear on the left.

Selecting a link within the table will highlight it on the map. You can use the road name search bar at the top of the road list or use the map display filter to further refine your search based on existing speed limits in the account.

NOTE: Only selected links will have their data reverted.  Should you want all streets to be reset, ensure you draw a polygon around all streets.

Step 6 - Click Revert Button & Confirm

With the links that you want to revert selected, click the revert button at the bottom of the Data Editor Interface.  When clicked a confirmation dialogue will present asking if you would like to continue.  Click continue to revert to defaults for the selected links.
