Traffic Volume Layers

A summary of Traffic Volume data layers that can be analyzed within Insights.

1.0 Selectable Layers

The following are Traffic Volume data layers that can be selected within Insights including:

  • Volume (AADT): Quantifies the estimated Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) along a segment of road. This is a single annual daily value.
  • Volume (AAHT): Quantifies the estimated Annual Average Hourly Traffic (AAHT) volume along a segment of road. This is an annual hourly value broken down by day of week, period of day, and hour of day.

NOTE: For Aggregated Insights reports where data is provided by period of day, the value represents the max hourly volume within the selected period(s). For Daily Insights reports where data is provided by hour of day, the AAHT is provided as the calculated annual hourly value.

  • Vehicle Miles Travelled (VMT): Quantifies the estimated upper and lower range of annual vehicle miles travelled along a segment of road. This is calculated by taking the road segment length and multiplying it by the volume (AADT range) and 365 days. This is a single annual value.

⚠️NOTE: Volume (AADT) and Vehicle Miles Travelled (VMT) are only provided annually and are not provided by month, day of week, period, or hour.

While in the map view customers can hover over a road link to highlight it and see some quick statistics within the Tool Tip pop-up (see image above). The Tool tip will show all the values related to volume data and will represent the data for the selected year.

4.0 Data Panel

While a data layer is selected and visible in the Map View, customers can select individual road segments to bring up the Data Panel which consists of two tabs: the Analytics Tab, and the Details Tab.

4.1 Analytics Tab:

The analytics tab includes data insights on the select road segment including:

4.1.1 Summary Scorecard:

A summary scorecard of Traffic Volume Data across the selected time period will be shown at the top of the data panel.

4.1.2 Chart:

Displays a heat map of the selected layer value, disaggregated by the chosen time period or hour. The values within the heat map are color-coded based on their proximity to the weekly minimum and maximum values.

NOTE: For Aggregated Insights reports where data is provided by period of day, the value represents the max hourly volume within the selected period(s). For Daily Insights reports where data is provided by hour of day, the AAHT is provided as the calculated hourly value.

4.2 Details Tab:

This includes a summary of meta data for the selected road segment including:

  • Road Segment ID: unique ID for the road segment that can be referenced across all Urban SDK data.

  • Location: what county the segment resides within

  • Functional Class: classifies whether the roadway is a highway, arterial, or local street.

  • Length: the length of the road segment in miles.

  • Road Name: the name of the road.
